Knee pain as a result of a biomechanical muscle
imbalance: Intermittent or increasingly persistent knee pain
with walking or running is a classic sign of muscle imbalances
causing injury.
A combination of overactive muscles compensating
for weakness in stabilising muscles around the hip and the
knee can result in the patella (kneecap) sitting incorrectly.
The result is often friction behind the patella leading to
inflammation and pain that is exacerbated with exercise.
What can be done?
Physiotherapy treatment can resolve the pain and inflammation
but the muscle imbalances will need to be resolved if recurring
problems are to be avoided.

Physiotherapists work with you to ensure that you learn to control your muscles
in carefully managed stages
Not just in the gym
A muscle may work effectively during a specific exercise but it can fail to work
properly when running, walking or even in a pilates or yoga class.
Our physiotherpists will teach you how to progress specific excercises in graduated
steps to ensure that newly developed muscles work efficiently and effectively.
